    What time do the polling stations open TODAY, April 12 in Peru? This is what the ONPE says


    There are just a few days left until April 12 that could change the destiny of Peru, and this through the vote carried out by more than 27 million citizens of legal age. This is revealed by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) in terms of figures, making known through an exclusive web portal, the details surrounding the 2026 General Elections that start very early, and will last up to 10 hours. With respect to the established voting schedule, we also tell you that the polling station members elected for these elections must go to the premises well in advance, that is, meet minutes before the scheduled start by said autonomous constitutional electoral body..

    A new and historic day for Peru is approaching, and with the arrival of April 12 where from very early hours, more than 27 million citizens of legal age will cast their vote for the president, vice presidents, senators, deputies, and Andean parliamentarians of their preference.

    According to the information officially shared, and by the ONPE from the activation of the web portal, the opening hours to participate in the 2026 General Elections start at 7 am, and will end 10 hours later, that is, 5 in the afternoon.

    With respect to the polling station members, between holders and substitutes, said autonomous constitutional electoral body specifies that on April 12, those who have been selected, and notified in this regard, must meet at their respective voting locations at 6 in the morning, and this in order to install the voting tables that will receive more than 27 million Peruvians carrying a National Identity Document (DNI).

    More than 27 million Peruvians will be choosing the new Peruvian authorities, and approaching the polling station on April 12, for which they must go with their yellow, blue or electronic ID.

    With respect to precisely the ID that identifies them at the national level, and is of utmost importance in view of the celebration of the 2026 General Elections, RENIEC, through Jorge Puch Pardo Figueroa as deputy director of Links and Registry Archive, states that in the event of loss or theft, it is advisable, and once the incident has arisen, to go to the nearest police station to report it.

    In a dialogue granted to the Andina Agency, the specialist highlights that carrying out this procedure will generate a document from which the aggrieved citizen will be able to justify the reason why he does not have an ID on hand, and therefore, cannot use his right to vote this Sunday, April 12.

    Once the complaint has been carried out considering the loss or theft of the important Peruvian ID, it is essential that you present it before the National Elections Jury (JNE), and with the purpose of requesting the waiver or exoneration of payment of the fine established around the 2026 General Elections.

    Once again, Peruvian citizens will make use of their right to vote, and on this occasion participating in the 2026 General Elections where the DNI is of utmost importance to exercise it.

    By showing this ID you will be considered for the election of various public positions, being the RENIEC now the body that issues Headquarters Resolution No. 000030, and from which it surprises by exceptionally extending the validity of those that have expired or are about to expire until April 12, 2026.

    “Citizens will be able to identify themselves with the blue DNI or the electronic document in version 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 at the voting table, even though they are expired.“, highlights the entity through a press release, and pointing out that with a view to the celebration of the 2026 General Elections, this is an exceptional measure seeking “guarantee the participation of all Peruvians”.
