PARAMARIBO – Three young children were brought lifeless to the Emergency Department of the University Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) on Saturday afternoon. AZP director Claudia Marica-Redan confirms this to the editors of the True Time.
The children are reportedly aged 4, 2 and 1, probably from the same family.
The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. According to Marica-Redan, the police have started an investigation and there is still a lot of uncertainty. “The police are still investigating. Much is still unclear. The cause of death will have to be determined via autopsy,” said the director.
Preliminary information shows that the children – two girls and a boy – had been ill for several days and showed symptoms indicative of a possible smallpox infection.
