Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath says water supply at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex has returned to normal following a reported interruption earlier on Saturday.
Guardian Media was contacted amid concerns that parts of the hospital complex, including the NICU, antenatal and postnatal wards, the Women’s Hospital and the emergency department, were without water.
One source described the situation saying, “It’s a disaster right now.”
However, Padarath said the disruption had been resolved and the facility’s water systems were stable.
“Mt. Hope has tanks that have mega storage capacity, I am advised that the tanks are all filled,” he said in a WhatsApp message to Guardian Media.
He added that the interruption in supply was due to works in the area.
“The supply from WASA was interrupted due to works in the area. I am advised that the supply to the St. Joseph area has returned,” he said.
Padarath said the hospital has adequate backup water storage and that normal operations have resumed.
