Nearly three-quarters of Hungarians see the country’s future as hopeful, and even nearly a quarter of Fidesz voters are hopeful, according to Median fresh, the From a poll commissioned by HVG and RTL.
According to the survey, even a fifth of those who voted for Fidesz in April think that Péter Magyar, who took office on May 9, is (completely or more) a suitable prime minister. According to the survey, compared to 54 percent in March, in April 74 percent of the respondents considered Péter Magyar to be a completely or rather suitable prime minister, in the case of Orbán, this ratio dropped from 45 percent to 42 percent. The latter is a drop of a few percentage points, while 32 percent of those polled still considered the outgoing prime minister completely suitable in March, and only 22 percent in April.
According to 25 percent of the respondents, the new government will be able to show visible results in its first year of operation. If we add to this those who expect improvement within 2 or 3 years, the proportion of optimists in the entire population is already 72 percent, and among Fidesz voters it is 45 percent.
The most important problems to be solved were health care (35 percent) and the restoration of the economy (25 percent), as well as accountability and the elimination of corruption (18 percent).
Methodology: The survey was commissioned by HVG and RTL between April 15 and 20, 2026, by Medián by telephone interviewing a nationally representative sample of 1,000 people. The minor distortions of the sample were corrected by using KSH data, so-called weighting, so that the sample well reflects the composition of the voting-age population according to settlement type, gender, age and educational level. The margin of error of the reported data is ±3.1 percent at most, depending on the distribution of responses in the entire sample.
