Slovakia’s expertise in the digitization of tax processes and the suppression of the gray economy will be a roadmap for Macedonian reforms in the management of public finances.
This is the main conclusion from today’s official visit of the Minister of Finance Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska to Bratislava, where she had a working meeting with her Slovak colleague Ladislav Kamenicki.
The focus of the talks between the two delegations was the modernization of the tax system and the introduction of modern digital tools such as e-fiscalization and Q-ar payments.
Dimitrieska-Kochoska announced that Macedonia is intensively working on the electronic invoice system, with its full implementation expected by the end of this year. She emphasized that technology is the main weapon for increasing efficiency and preventing tax evasion, pointing to the Slovak model as an excellent example.
In addition, the meeting discussed the analysis of public expenses (Spending Review). This process, which is an essential part of the State’s Reform Agenda for more efficient spending of public money, will officially start in Macedonia during this year, 2026.
The minister also referred to the macroeconomic picture, informing the Slovak colleague that the Macedonian economy recorded a growth of 3.5 percent in 2025, driven by investments and the private sector. Despite the global uncertainty, the Government is basing its projections for economic growth in 2026 precisely on structural reforms and the improvement of the business climate.
For his part, Slovak Minister Kamenicki expressed his full readiness to help Macedonia with their European experience.
The two countries agreed to deepen the cooperation in the coming period through a concrete exchange of experts, which should speed up the economic development and the European integration path of Macedonia.
