PARAMARIBO — The well-known Dutch Surinamese R&B soul group Re-Play and Gordon are joining forces again after 25 years. Their new single ‘Mi Lobi Yu’, which will be released on Friday, combines Dutch with Sranantongo and gives the track a clear Surinamese vibe. “It promises to be a special track. We can’t wait to let everyone hear it,” says Re-Play singer Sam de Wit .
The singer describes the song as ‘a really great track’, and the title already says a lot. Dutch, but especially Sranantongo makes it extra recognizable for the Surinamese audience. Re-Play and Gordon have a long history together. In 1999 they scored a big hit with ‘Never Nooit Meer’, which became a classic. The song appeared on Gordon’s album ‘With heart and soul’ and later also on their joint album Gordon & Re-Play from 2002.
Other well-known collaborations include ‘Zolang’ and ‘Know that I love you’. “We have never lost sight of each other and have always remained friends through everything,” Gordon said on Instagram. The collaboration will also be continued on stage later this year.
