For four straight years, Knox College, located in the parish of Manchester, has dominated local schoolgirl volleyball.
Last Friday at the G.C. Foster College, the Colin Rose-coached team dismissed urban champions Immaculate Conception High School to secure their fourth successive hold on the ISSA All-island schoolgirl title; and in all those four years, one player has stood out, and that is Treviann Taylor.
In the first final in 2023, Taylor was named MVP, best attacker and best blocker; and she repeated the feat again in her final season, taking the same individual awards, along with the title.
“We came with one intention and that was to win. So I just wanted my team to relax and execute what they can do, and that’s what we did. But I just work with my team, try to help my team and execute,” Taylor said after the final.
The player was lost for words when asked how she felt about winning a fourth straight national title, but credited her hard work.
“Winning the title for four consecutive years is truly an amazing feeling. I can’t put into words how much this means to me. It just goes to show that hard work really does pay off.”
Very much the inspirational and spiritual leader of the team, Taylor credits a lot of her development and success to Rose.
“I have to say thank you to the Lord, who is the head of my life. We couldn’t have done it without Him, and also with the help of my coach, who has put so much hard work and dedication to this programme. When I just started, I couldn’t do anything, but look at us now,” she beamed.
The young star is now hoping her high-level performances over the four years will catch the attention of an overseas college, as she hopes to make the next step in her volleyball progression. A scholarship would be ideal for her to continue her development in the game.
“I am now transitioning to college. I am in my last year of high school. So I am hoping to get a scholarship to move on to college. That’s the next step for me,” she commented.
Taylor’s coach, Rose, emphasised her importance in their run to four straight national titles.
“Treviann has been with the team four, five years. In 2023 when we won the first title, Treviann was actually that player. She came out of nowhere to win that title for us. She was our MVP in 2023 and our MVP again.”
