In recent months, Ukrainians have increasingly heard the idea that the war with Russia could end if Kyiv agreed to withdraw its troops from the Donbass, allowing Vladimir Putin to achieve his 2022 goal.
As “Prozoro”, commenting on such a scenario, the well-known Ukrainian historian Jaroslav Grytsak explained, there are indeed some examples in history when territorial concessions helped to end the war, but in the case of Ukraine, this would not solve the situation.
The expert is sure that the Ukrainian situation Donbass capitulation would only serve as a “doping” for Russia, allowing the aggressor country to recover and, most importantly, strengthen its determination to continue the war.
“Because every time you give up territory, the aggressor takes it as a gift of fate and does not stop, seeing it as a sign of weakness,” Gryczak explained.
