Ukraine: Moscow ignores Zelensky’s ceasefire push
After Ukraine unilaterally announced the start of a ceasefire, Kiev accused Moscow of continuing its attacks. Moscow has once again ignored a realistic and fair call to end hostilities, wrote Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on the X platform. According to him, Russian attacks with 108 drones and three missiles continued throughout the night. Russia violated the ceasefire initiated by Ukraine.
This shows that Russia rejects peace, argued Sybiha. He spoke of a fake call by Russia for a ceasefire on May 9, which had nothing to do with diplomacy. Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is only interested in military parades, not in human lives, wrote Sybiha. He called for more pressure on Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky set the ceasefire to begin at midnight local time on Wednesday. Moscow had previously ordered a ceasefire on Friday and Saturday, when Russia commemorated the Soviet victory in World War II. Zelensky’s announcement of an earlier ceasefire was not immediately commented on in Moscow. Zelensky had said that Kiev would react in the same way if the Russian side did not comply.
