In this system, LED strips placed on the edges of pedestrian crossings light up in red and green colors, indicating the crossing status from the ground. This solution, developed especially for people who constantly look at their phones while walking, aims to reduce distraction.
The practice quickly became widespread throughout the city. While approximately 1200 ground-level traffic lights are actively used, this number is even more concentrated in some regions. The system allows pedestrians to notice the signals without even looking up.

According to authorities, this innovation provides a significant safety advantage not only for adults using phones, but also for children. It has been observed that accidents have decreased, especially in school environments, thanks to the lights on the ground.
This application is considered as part of broader ‘smart pedestrian crossing’ projects. It is stated that traffic safety in the city has been significantly increased thanks to the infrastructure supported by radar systems and sensors.
The resulting picture shows that classical traffic systems alone are no longer sufficient. The descent of eye-level lights to the ground reveals that cities are being redesigned according to human behavior.
