The political decision to keep Manuel Adorni in his position at the head of the Chief of Staff, despite the investigation for alleged illicit enrichment and rumors of replacement, is “total” by the president Javier Milei and his sister, the general secretary Karina MileiSources at the highest level of the Government told LA NACION.
However, along with this conviction at the top of libertarian power, in light of the latest revelations the discomfort and a certain boredom in a good part of the Cabinet. Its members have seen, for two months, how the management agenda is “invisibilized by what is happening with Manuel”described one of its members.
The Milei’s support for Adorni has been publicly demonstrated on different occasions. “They are convinced that Manuel is going to clarify everything”said one of the libertarian voices consulted by this medium. “They are not going to deliver it”he completed in reference to the situation of Adorni, investigated in the Comodoro Py courts for the growth of his assets.
Almost 60 days after the controversy began, different terminals and ranks of the ruling party report that the case is “having a lot of cost for everyone.” This was recognized by several of those consulted who, in the midst of strong public secrecy, recognized behind the scenes that “No one questions the issue directly”in contacts with the Milei brothers.
“They are convinced that the numbers are going to close them and there is no room to propose another scenario because they believe that all this is an operation,” an important voice from the libertarian core slipped in to explain what happened. “(Javier and Karina) believe it is an operation and they fully support it”completed the official consulted by LA NACION.
“You have to bank it to death”is one of the most repeated phrases inside the ruling party closest to the Milei brothers. But what no one in the Cabinet dares to say in public or to the Milei brothers themselves, is that the case “The agenda has been fully booked for two months now.” and “without being able to get out of there” for a Government that needs to activate its management.
Meanwhile, hours after it became known that Adorni had paid $245,000 to renovate his country house, the president’s last endorsement arrived. It was this Tuesday, when just hours after the contractor’s statement Matías TabarMilei shared a meeting with Adorni sitting next to him as part of a meeting with members of the Jewish community.
Before that, in the morning, Milei and Adorni saw each other face to face in the Casa Rosada, as confirmed by the coordinating minister, but it was not revealed what they discussed. The Chief of Staff was the first to arrive at the government palace this Tuesday, with jacket but without tiewhich was then placed for the formal hearing next to the President.
Meanwhile, this Friday the president is expected to close the week with a new gesture towards Adorni. It will be when, after returning from his trip to the United States, Milei leads the first minutes of the Cabinet meeting. The same thing happened a month ago, in the last meeting of that type. There Adorni asked the ministers for a cuts plan and now they are expected to deliver it.
Between the discomfort that accumulates in the different ministries There is also that officials practically cannot show their respective efforts, because the Adorni issue “is imposed.” At the same time, the majority avoid interviews To avoid the “monotheme”, they define several of them. At least two think that the Chief of Staff should decompress the situation.
“There is no opposition and we inflict damage on ourselves daily”an official evaluated, frustrated. “There is no strategy to get out. I’m not saying that Manuel is guilty, far from it, but this at this point should not be an issue,” added another. “Time will tell, but in my opinion it was better if something was done as soon as the topic began and all this wear and tear was avoided,” he added.
The point that finally frayed tempers was recorded this Monday, when the contractor’s statement was known. Matías Tabarwho assured that the renovation of the house of the countryman Indio Cua cost 245 thousand dollars and that they were paid in cash by the official.
Those around Adorni flatly deny it, while the Cabinet wonders “how much more there can be” given the “drop and drop” revelations in the case. “Every time we thought the foam was going down, it went up again. Now we’re not even excited”graphed a third.
In fact, it has already been circulated several times among libertarians that they hoped that the Adorni case would go away so resume the political, economic and legislative agendabut that didn’t happen. The Chief of Staff will try to return to that path next Friday, when he visits the Mercedes Benz in La Matanza.
Until Monday, the Government already believed that it could regain control of the agenda, after Adorni passed through Congress and after resuming its press conferences. The relief did not last long and just two hours after finishing his presentation, the first after almost 40 days, the case broke out again with Tabar’s statement.
