Michael Joseph says he is ready from day one to transform Rural West, promises more frequent town halls
Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate for St. John’s Rural West Michael Joseph says he is prepared to begin work immediately if elected, pledging to transform St. John’s Rural West and introduce regular town hall meetings to keep residents directly involved in decision-making.
Speaking at a campaign event in Rural West on Thursday night, Joseph told supporters he understands the constituency’s challenges because he is part of the community.
“Because I am you, and you are me,” he said. “I walk these streets and I understand the challenges that we face in St. John’s Rural West. I understand what we need in Rural West.”
Joseph said he has already spent the past two years working within the constituency, focusing on key areas of development and support for residents, particularly in St. John’s Hill.
“I’ve spent the last two years in this constituency working to benefit the people… working to make sure that we invest in the areas that are critical,” he said, adding that his efforts would not stop after the election.
Looking ahead to election day, Joseph said his approach would be driven by the daily needs of constituents.
“Come April 30th, when you make your decision, I will get up every day and the first thing I will look and say, ‘What does the people of Rural West need today?’ And I will get up, I will go, and I’ll fight for it,” he said.
A central part of his plan, he noted, is to establish consistent engagement with residents through town hall meetings.
“I intend to make sure that we have regular town hall meetings in this constituency because you need to be a part of what happens,” Joseph said. “You need to tell me, as your representative, what needs to be done and the decisions that we need to fight for.”
Joseph acknowledged that significant work lies ahead but maintained that he is ready to take on the responsibility.
“There is a lot of work to do… I am ready,” he said.
Voters in St. John’s Rural West are expected to go to the polls on April 30 to choose their next parliamentary representative.
