The Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) approved the creation of 588 new places this Thursday, intended for the first level of care and for the Aguas Zarcas health area.
The financial manager of the institution, Gustavo Picado Chacón, explained that the new positions correspond to the second tract of the period 2026. This budget modification will allow the immediate hiring of medical and administrative personnel.
Of the total positions, 283 are ordinary positions and 305 correspond to special services. The authorities reported that the The validity of these positions began on April 23. For the effective use of the positions, the entity must comply with the appointment regulations within a period of one month.
The strategy seeks to promote health prevention and improve patient monitoring, according to authorities.
With this reinforcement, the CCSS hopes to influence the quality of specialties and reduce teleconsultations.
The shift distribution assigned 65% of the staff to the morning, 20% to the afternoon and 15% to the night.
The health area of Aguas Zarcas received 159 places for the prompt inauguration of its new headquarters. The AI director of said area, Adelina Salazar Chacón, stated that the benefit reached 52,000 users in the area. Enhanced services included nursing, pharmacy, social work, networks and administration.
Other regions also received additional human resources for their medical centers. The center of Alajuela West It will have 14 new places after this approval. Likewise, the administrative separation of Chomes-Monteverde allowed the allocation of 7 places to strengthen its local services.
