The lawyer representing a man from Byera who had five bullets in a sandwich at the Argyle International Airport (AIA) in 2024, argued vehemently in court on April 23, 2026 that the police did not question the person who made the sandwich.
Defence lawyer Grant Connell, made that argument before Senior Magistrate Tammika McKenzie, and Prosecutor Shamrock Pierre at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on April 21, 2026 as he was pleading for a suspended sentence or a fine for Kafique Francis.
Francis was found guilty that on June 24, 2024, while employed at the AIA, he had five rounds of ammunition concealed in a sandwich.
At around 8:05 on the morning he was nabbed, Francis went to a security checkpoint and when his bag went through the scanner, one of the security officers observed something strange in the sandwich, and a check revealed the .9 millimetre rounds.
The supervisor was informed, the police were called, and Francis was arrested. During a full trial, Francis maintained that he had no knowledge of the ammunition.
