Due to the strong storm off the coast of Sakarya’s Karasu on May 1, the Cameroon-flagged ship loaded with fertilizer was dragged to the shore and ran aground on the shores of the public beach.
Upon notification of the situation, Coast Guard, Coastal Police, medical and police teams were dispatched to the region.
CREW OF 8 PEOPLE WERE SAVED
The crew of 8 people trapped on the ship were brought to the shore with the help of steel ropes.
The crew, 7 Azerbaijani and 1 Turkish, were rescued with the successful operation and were discharged after their health checks at the hospital.

SUITABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED FOR THE RESCUE OF THE SHIP
On the other hand, it was learned that the strong wind in the region was expected to reduce its effect in order to save the ship.
It was stated that after suitable weather conditions are met, special teams will dive and check the buoyancy of the ship and then the rescue operation will begin depending on the situation.

In the statement, it was reported that the 8 casualty personnel on the ship were successfully evacuated by the Land Rescue (lifesaving) teams affiliated with the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, using the traditional waragele system.
