It was the first bill that the Government delivered to Parliament in the current legislature, on June 25, 2025, with a request for urgency in the legislative process. Almost a year later, after a passage through the Constitutional Court (TC) and the declaration of unconstitutionality of several norms, and with the diploma now divided in two, purged of the controversial loss of nationality as an additional sanction — diploma that is now back in the TC —, the new Nationality Law will come into force. Approved in Parliament by PSD, CDS, Chega and IL, the Parliament decree was promulgated this Sunday by the President of the Republic.
