Educator representing Yerevan primary school No. 50, eTwinning ambassador Haykuhi Khachatryan told how the students of the Armenian preschool won the pan-European competition, and later how his pedagogical activity went after being integrated into the eTwinning community.

“I joined eTwinning in 2019, we worked with 4-6 year old children. Working with children of that age is difficult, because you think about how to present the material interestingly to the child so that it is comprehensible. Within the framework of the project, I cooperate with teachers from Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Not being an English specialist, over the years I have learned to communicate in English, master digital tools,” said Haykuhi Khachatryan.

He informed that their preschool has won the prize of pan-European competition 2 times, 2 of the 3 prizes of Armenia belong to the Alphabet preschool. “Every year, 1,000 projects participate in the competition, and ours was considered the best. Specifically, with the last project, we studied the colors of the rainbow. For example, we used to organize any color month. As soon as you said red, the children associated that color with Lego, and yellow with the sun and chips. Although the Alphabet Preschool is closed, I continue my work. I am also an ambassador of eTwinning from Armenia, which means to dictate the way of presentation, how to work with children,” our interlocutor noted. Mrs. Khachatryan informed that she is currently working at a school and has transferred the project to the school for junior school students.

He added that within the framework of eTwinning, children are able to communicate with each other on the online platform. to have at least a minimum communicative level of a foreign language. Haykuhi Khachatryan added that they created a book of recipes and a dictionary of colors with 4 cooperating countries. The teacher emphasized that the program is important because children with special educational needs are also involved in it, that is, eTwinning also ensures inclusion.

Principal of Yerevan Movses Khorenatsi Primary School No. 143, 2017 eTwinning ambassador Karine Kostanyan also presented the possibilities of the eTwinning program for teachers and schools, as well as international cooperation between schools. By the way, the school headed by him was recognized as an eTwinning school.

“2016 I saw the announcement of eTwinning on Facebook that a training should take place at the school named after Daniel Varuzhan, and Manushak Petrosyan, one of the ambassadors, would conduct it. I applied, trained, at first it was difficult to understand a lot. Then, after doing some research, I started a project. Months later, I received an invitation to participate in an international seminar in Aghveran. I participated, they liked the project. After the training, I did a new, very nice project with third graders. Our boys made an Armenian doll, which we mailed to 4 of our colleagues, they added a national component, and then returned the doll to us. It is preserved in our school until now. Then I participated in training in Poland as an active teacher, then I received an offer to become an ambassador.”

According to Karine Kostanyan, for years, Armenian students have been far ahead of students of the same age from other countries in terms of academic knowledge, but we have lacked the skills, skillful use of academic knowledge, and doing projects provides such an opportunity. While presenting the latest project, the school’s director said that it is about the relationship with artificial intelligence and smart cities. “Each partner country studies the smart cities being built in its country or any area where new technologies are used. Our students have done work on Bagrevand district of Yerevan. They also contacted the developer and sent a letter to the Yerevan Municipality asking them to cooperate with the developer. Our students went, studied how everything is done, and then prepared a model of a smart city with their teachers. Our other partners also made a similar mockup. In our case, it was smart garbage collection. We’ve figured out how to recycle trash smartly using some magical intelligence. It can become a ready-made business plan, which we presented to the mayor of Yerevan and our district head. They can do it themselves,” explained Karine Kostanyan.

He added that the children of Georgia had done a project on the theme of parking spaces, and Serbia had done a project on spreading and collecting laundry in a smart way.

Let’s remind that in 2013 Armenia has joined the eTwinning community of the European School Cooperation within the framework of the EU’s Eastern Partnership. This program started in EU countries in 2005. and is currently part of the Erasmus Plus program. Supporting organizations have been selected in all countries participating in the project, in Armenia the National Center for Educational Technologies (KTAK) acts as a supporting organization.
