US judicial authorities have charged the man who attempted to storm the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner carrying firearms, Cole Thomas Allen, on charges of attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.
Federal authorities said – according to the American Associated Press – that the attack “which disrupted one of Washington’s most prominent events” had been planned for at least weeks.
The American news agency added, “Cole Thomas Allen appeared in court on Monday to face federal charges after the chaotic confrontation that took place last Saturday, which resulted in gunfire, Trump being removed from the stage unharmed, and guests resorting to hiding under their tables… He was ordered to remain in pretrial detention pending additional hearings, and faces a life sentence in prison if he is convicted of the attempted assassination charge alone.”
