Israel accuses Abu Keshek, who has Palestinian roots, of having connections to the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Navy intercepted 21 ships of the “Global Sumud Flotilla” in international waters west of Crete on Thursday night and said it arrested 175 people. Greece agreed to accept those arrested by the Israeli Navy and to allow their return to their countries of origin. As the Greek media consistently reported, these people, apart from the Spaniard and the Brazilian, were brought to Crete on Friday.
Around 30 boats from the flotilla carrying Gaza aid supplies entered the port of Ierapetra in southeast Crete after the Israeli military action. Organizers said the flotilla was regrouping and would continue its course “to break the illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip.” Data from an online tracker from the initiators of the flotilla and the ship tracking system Marine Traffic showed that the boats were still in the port on Saturday, possibly due to strong winds. The bad weather is expected to continue in the region around Crete for the next few days.
