Libya’s Mufti, Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani, met with a number of dignitaries and elders from the city of Misrata to discuss recent developments in the country, particularly the controversy surrounding the so-called Boulos deal.
The Mufti commended Misrata’s “honorable stance” in rejecting any agreements that could enable military rule in the country, expressing appreciation for their statement issued days ago from the Iron and Steel Complex, which clearly reflected their outright rejection of the deal.
Al-Gharyani also praised statements issued by several Libyan cities that firmly rejected what is known as the “Boulos project,” calling on all cities and regions not to show leniency or retreat in confronting it.
He further expressed surprise at some of those statements appealing to the United Nations mission in Libya to implement a roadmap, warning that the international community; through the mission since the Skhirat Agreement, does not seek genuine stability in Libya nor aims to hold fair elections.
Misrata’s dignitaries and elders praised the Mufti’s leading role and consistent national positions, expressing pride in his steadfastness in defending national causes and broader issues concerning the Islamic nation.
The participants also stressed the need for serious efforts to end the transitional phases, reiterating their absolute rejection of the continuation of what they described as a “vicious cycle” that the UN mission and dominant powers within the Security Council are attempting to impose on the Libyan will.
