Fierce overnight militia clashes in the western coastal city of Surman between two militia groups using light and medium weapons, have reportedly resulted in three casualties and property damage.
It is still unclear what the cause of the clash and between which militias.
The Libyan Red Crescent emergency teams in Surman reported that they have worked around the clock to respond to the armed clashes that took place in the city and lasted for several hours.
After opening a safe passage, the team was able to evacuate more than 11 families from various locations within the area of the clashes, ensuring their safety.
During these operations, one of the team’s vehicles was struck by stray gunfire, but no volunteers were injured.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Surman condemned the ongoing clashes, despite the intervention efforts of the Mayor, the Director of Security, and the Commander of the Special Tasks Department – Western Branch, to contain the situation and maintain stability within the city.
The Municipality expressed its deepest sorrow for the loss of life.
The Municipality calls upon all citizens to exercise caution and vigilance and to adhere to the guidelines issued by the competent authorities to ensure their safety.
It also called upon all conflicting parties to demonstrate a spirit of national responsibility, to prioritize wisdom and reason, and to refrain from any actions that could inflame tensions or harm social peace.
It announced that it will take all necessary legal measures against those involved, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The municipality also emphasizes its full commitment to pursuing these cases to their conclusion, to ensure justice for the victims, protect the rights of the innocent, and uphold the rule of law.
