Finnish users of the ride-hailing Uber app can now also start ordering food deliveries.
The US food delivery firm Uber Eats has launched its operations in Finland.
Users of the Uber app, which has previously been used to avail of the firm’s ride-hailing services in Finland, can now also be used to make food delivery orders.
Uber Eats unveiled its plans to launch in seven European countries, including Finland, in February — noting at the time that it is relishing entering markets where established competitors are already present.
In Finland, that established competitor is Wolt, the Finnish delivery giant.
In the week before the Uber Eats announcement, Wolt’s erstwhile competitor Foodora revealed its plans to wind down operations in Finland, saying it will instead focus on countries where it can become the market leader.
Foodora failed to gain a significant foothold in the Finnish market due to Wolt’s dominance.
“We think it’s time to raise the bar, shake things up, and offer better value for money across the entire industry,” Uber Eats spokesperson Susan Anderson said in February.
