Samoa had plenty to celebrate as Seine Stowers marked her 18th birthday in unforgettable fashion, delivering a powerful, record-breaking performance at the IBFC Universal Weightlifting Cup.
Stowers lifted an impressive 112kg in the snatch, setting new World Junior and Oceania records. She followed this with a remarkable 142kg in the clean and jerk, securing gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and overall total.
It was an emotional moment not only for Seine, but also for her family—especially her mother, Maofa Lagaaia Vaeono, who travelled from Fa‘ala, Palauli in Savai‘i to witness her daughter’s achievement.
“It is a special moment to celebrate Seine’s birthday together with her winning medals,” she said.
“I dedicate these medals to my dear mother,” Stowers added.
Seine, the seventh of eight children, has been strongly supported by her mother throughout her journey. Her father, Faaaluvale Taaseu Stowers, has also played a key role in guiding and motivating her in the sport.
Her success extended beyond the Universal Cup. Stowers also claimed gold medals at the Junior Oceania and Junior Commonwealth Championships, further cementing her status as one of Samoa’s rising stars in weightlifting.
Looking ahead, Stowers is now preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2026, scheduled from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland. She is determined to represent Samoa with pride and aims to secure another gold medal for her country.
“Ua mae‘a nei lenei faamoemoe, ma o lea ua ou tapena ai loa mo le Commonwealth Games ia Iulai 23 e oo ia Aukuso 2 i Glasgow, Sikotilani. O le a ou alu ai e tauva ma taumafai e toe saili se isi pine auro mo si o tatou atunuu.”
