The Prince and Princess Caroline opened the 8th edition of Monaco Art Week on Monday evening at the New National Museum of Monaco. Until 1 May, fourteen galleries and auction houses will transform the Principality into an open-air art trail.
Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline of Hanover, who wore a dazzling ensemble, kicked off Monaco Art Week at a preview event at the New National Museum on Monday. This year’s event brings together fourteen venues, from Artcurial to Sotheby’s, including the Almine Rech Gallery and the Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo, spread across La Condamine, Monte-Carlo and Larvotto. The Sovereign and his sister then toured the current exhibition on Nicolas Poussin and contemporary art at the New National Museum of Monaco.
The exhibition, which winds its way through the freely accessible galleries, brings together ancient, modern and contemporary art: painting, sculpture, jewellery and design. “Artists don’t just need to be remembered in the history books; They need it whilst they are still experimenting, questioning themselves, paying for their materials and choosing to keep creating when no one is watching,” said Caroline Jelmoni, Secretary General of Monaco Art Week, recalling in passing the values upheld by the event since 2018, with the aim of uniting the Monegasque art scene.

The week will culminate with the opening on Wednesday of the Art Monte-Carlo fair at the Grimaldi Forum, marking its 10th edition under the artistic direction of Stefano Rabolli Pansera.
