From the Guárico state, in a meeting with producers and social movements, the Minister of the Interior and Justice, Diosdado Haironce again rejected the calls for presidential elections as soon as possible, by the majority opposition, led by María Corina Machado.
“Some are with their story: elections tomorrow, so that? So that they don’t recognize the result? The elections will be when they should be,” Cabello warned again during the meeting broadcast on VTV, this Wednesday, April 29.
The senior spokesmen of Chavismo, Cabello, together with the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodriguezcontinue in the so-called national pilgrimage against international sanctions that began on April 19, through several states of the country and is scheduled to close with a “megaconcert” in Caracas.
Vente Venezuela, Machado’s political organization, assures that it has started work in the regions for the reactivation of the commandos that led to the electoral victory of Edmundo González, on July 28, 2024, not recognized by the government of Nicolas Maduro. Meanwhile, the opposition leader, still in exile, assures that once the decision is made, presidential elections can be organized in nine months.
During several events as part of the pilgrimage, Cabello has dismissed the call for elections this year or in early 2027. He has maintained that they are not the “solution” because the adversaries fail to comply with the agreements.
In its roadmap for the democratic transition in Venezuela, the Platform Democratic Unitary (PUD), which accompanies Machado, demands the formation of a new independent National Electoral Council (CNE) and electoral guarantees with credible international observation.
In a subsequent public event, the minister called on Chavismo to finish the “first phase” of the pilgrimage in Caracas, this April 30when the workers plan to march again, en route to Miraflores, to demand an increase in salaries and pensions.
Get on the unity train
From San Juan de los Morros, Cabello, also general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv), called for the “unit“, not only from the ranks of Chavismo, including the Armed Forces (Fanb) but also from the opposition against international sanctions, so that they are lifted in their entirety.
“We are not even vindictive; they have pointed out things that are barbaric (…) This pilgrimage train does not pass once; We have to see that whoever does not get on the unity train, join them. If we are united we will be invincible. If you are part of a team, you never do anything to harm it; Even if you are an opponent, being politically opposed is not being against the country,” he said.
He also addressed the representation of the Fanb present to remember that in governments prior to Chavismo they were “used and set aside” while currently “Fanb and town are a single block”.
“This country needs us united; if everyone goes their own way, dispersed, it will be very easy to be subdued,” he reiterated.
“Let sanctions continue to be eliminated”
Cabello expressed his hope that more international sanctions imposed mainly by the United States would be lifted: “We hope they continue to be removed“He explained to the social movements affected by Chavismo and the producers that the measures already lifted, such as against the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), will take time to take effect due to the procedures involved in normalizing relations with the international financial system.
He stressed that what other countries have done against Venezuela through international sanctions, they have hardly done it to another nation, he assured. But he also stressed that no people in the world have resisted like the Venezuelan people with the restrictive measures that have fallen on the economy, mainly on the state-owned PDVSA.
He assured that during the national tour that has included states such as Táchira, Cojedes, Barinas, Sucre and Zulia, they have been able to verify that there is consensus around the topic: “the sanctions have been cruelty against the people of Venezuela, they are the result of a hate campaign against the country, they are not only against the leaders.”
“You can be opposed to the government but not to your own country, it is unforgivable to take a position of that nature (…) Venezuelans deserve a free countrythat it can fly, peace and that is how it will be in Guárico,” he said.
Against armed groups
Cabello also warned armed groups in Guárico that act against producers that “they are going to reach them wherever they are.”
“We have given opportunities to those who have committed crimes. Whoever is extorting, blackmailing, is going to encounter the law, we work in silence as things have to be done. It cannot be that they appear groups that believe they can subjugate a population just by having gunswe are working every day in the territory. We will get to the criminals wherever they are involved, whoever is working, let him work,” he urged.
He also suggested that producers unite against big brands such as rice brands, to demand fair prices for their crops. He recalled that previously there was a monopoly in the corn flour industry, alluding to a well-known brand, that “they set whatever price they wanted” and people began to reinvent themselves.
“Now there are 700 brands of corn flour throughout the country, Venezuelans do not give up,” he said.
