The Maltese entertainment community is mourning the loss of veteran actress and television presenter Mary Grech, who has passed away at the age of 88.
Her son, Josef N Grech, shared the news in a moving tribute on Facebook, describing his mother as a pillar of resilience and bravery who taught him how to face life’s challenges.
He expressed deep gratitude for the time they spent together, particularly over the last three years, noting how blessed he felt to have remained by her side until the end.
Born on May 2, 1937, Grech’s storied career began at the age of 14 when she joined the theatrical group Liliputtjani.
She rose to national prominence in the early 1960s after being selected from a pool of 2,000 candidates to become one of the original announcers for Malta Television, alongside Charles Abela Mizzi.
Her passing follows that of her husband, the renowned actor Victor Grech, who died in 2023 at the age of 96. Grech leaves behind a significant legacy as a trailblazer in Maltese broadcasting and performing arts.
