By: Katherine Matuauto Gvt Press. The Government of Samoa has received a significant boost in its healthcare sector. This came through a generous donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (L.D.S.).
The official handover took place early last week at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital where the Ministry of Health acknowledged with appreciation, the Church’s ongoing partnership and support.
The event celebrated several key developments aimed at improving healthcare services.
These included the introduction of a new Dental Van, the opening of a renovated Mobility Building, and the establishment of a Mobility Storage Facility.
These advancements are seen as vital steps toward strengthening Samoa’s health infrastructure and service delivery. The Dental Van is expected to significantly improve access to oral health services, especially in rural and underserved communities.
This initiative will help promote preventive healthcare and improve health outcomes for children and families across Samoa.
The renovation of the Mobility Building and the new storage facility will enhance the efficiency of services for individuals requiring assistive devices.
These improvements are vital for restoring independence and improving quality of life, particularly for people living with disabilities.
The Ministry also highlighted the support from the Church’s Regional Humanitarian Services for Welfare and Self-Reliance in the Pacific, which has played a crucial role in these efforts.
The partnership reflects a deep understanding of Samoa’s needs and a shared commitment to uplifting communities.
“These developments represent more than infrastructure, they are powerful symbols of compassion, partnership, and enduring service,” says Associate Minister of Health, Motuopuaa Seve Henney Henry Papali’i.
Motupuaa accepted the donation on behalf of the ministry and the government.
In addition to health infrastructure, another worthy project that promises sustainable energy was also unveiled last week.
The Ministry of Health has benefited from a solar electrification system at the Satupa’itea Health Facility.
This is an initiative that helps support the solarisation of four district health facilities across Savai’i.
A collaboration with U.N.I.C.E.F. and the Ministry of Health that aims to improve energy security and support the transition to renewable energy sources, ensuring reliable healthcare delivery in Savai’i.
This project ensures reliable delivery of care for communities in those areas of the country.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to all involved stakeholders and looks forward to continuing this collaborative effort to create healthier, more resilient communities across Samoa.
