The Icelandic man who died in a parachuting accident on Sunday was a student at a public university in Fjón. The investigation of the case is in the hands of the police and the Danish Parachute Association.
The man was 24 years old and a student at Nordfyn’s public university in Fjón. His death is reported in a post on the school’s Facebook page.
“It is with great reluctance that we at Nordfyns Højskole report that one of the school’s students died in a tragic skydiving accident yesterday,” the post says.
It states that the accident took place in a parachute center in Óðinvéður on Fjón, but it is an approved parachute center run by the Danish Parachute Association (Dansk Faldskærms Union). The school cooperates with the center so that it is available to the students to learn and try skydiving.
“According to the Danish Parachute Association, initial information indicates that the accident occurred during a landing with an open parachute. Police and rescuers were on the scene, and the investigation committee of the Danish Parachute Association was also on the scene to investigate the scenario in cooperation with the police,” the school’s post says.
The next of kin have been informed and all those involved have been offered trauma care.
“Our thoughts are with the student’s family, friends and fellow students. The school has activated an emergency plan and is offering support to students and staff during this difficult time.”
