The National Court has confirmed the three-year sentence of the Reykjavík District Court against Algimantas Saltenis for a large-scale drug offence. He imported over three kilos of cocaine from Spain to Iceland together with two others.
The prosecution asked for an increase in the sentence, but the man was sentenced to three years in the district prison.
Saltenis pleaded guilty and said that he only handled driving and various tasks for a man in Lithuania, for whom he sometimes worked in Iceland.
Came in pots
The National Court considered it beyond reasonable doubt that Saltenis was involved in the importation and that he could not have concealed that it was an importation of narcotics.
In the judgment of the district court, the eve of the importation is torn. It states that they came to the country on the passenger ferry Norræna, which arrived at Seyðisfjörður. The substances were hidden in three pots in a suitcase.
