On the anniversary of the Liberation Revolution.. What did Macron’s message to President Tebboune carry?

“We are ready to negotiate with Morocco according to a serious political path.”

The Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mohamed Yeslem Besset, said on Wednesday that the Polisario Front does not reject negotiations with Morocco and remains ready to engage in a serious political path that leads to a just and lasting settlement of the Sahrawi issue in a way that guarantees the Sahrawi people the exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
The Sahrawi official explained, in a statement following the end of the eighth session of the Diplomatic Forum for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, which was held at the headquarters of the South African Embassy in Algeria with the participation of representatives of the Group of Friendly States of the Sahrawi Republic and headed by the Ambassador of Zimbabwe, that the holding of the Forum “reflects the continuation of international solidarity with the Sahrawi people and their right to self-determination.”
Basit stressed that the Polisario Front does not mind entering into negotiations “provided that this is linked to the necessity of respecting international references and guaranteeing the right of the Sahrawi people to freely choose their future, leading to a just and lasting solution to the conflict.”
Addressing the recent developments at the UN Security Council level, Basit explained that the Sahrawi issue and the struggle of the Sahrawi people are passing through “a new stage of struggle” and that the current stage requires reaffirming the need for “any solution to the Sahrawi issue to be based on the will of the Sahrawi people, far from any proposals that do not guarantee them the exercise of their right to self-determination,” criticizing the so-called Moroccan “autonomy proposal” for being, as he said, “a proposal with a colonial background.”
The Sahrawi Minister stressed that the settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara can only be achieved through “a solution that respects the right of the Sahrawi people to freely express their will, by exercising their inalienable right to self-determination under the supervision of the United Nations.”
It is noteworthy that the Diplomatic Forum for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People affirmed, in a statement issued by it, its continued expression of solidarity with the people of Western Sahara, reiterating its firm support for the Sahrawi people and affirming its determination to further strengthen all forms of cooperation and coordination in order to consolidate peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the African continent, in accordance with what was stated in the strategic plan for Africa’s development “Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.”
The forum called for an end to the illegal exploitation of desert resources, respect for international law, and an end to human rights violations in the occupied territories.
