20 countries ranked by paid days off, and how the U.S. compares

20 countries ranked by paid days off, and how the U.S. compares

Russia guarantees workers 42 paid days off a year, a total it shares with six other countries in the source’s table. Monaco, Kuwait, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Mali, and Peru hold the same count, and Russia closes out that seven-country group in Visual Capitalist’s listing.

A 23-day gap separates Russia from Malaysia and Thailand, which each guarantee 19 days. Both countries sit among the 20 with the smallest allowances worldwide, and Russia’s figure more than doubles theirs. The gap alone exceeds the full 19-day minimum in either country. A worker in Russia holds more extra time off, on paper, than a Malaysian or Thai worker receives altogether.

Malaysia and Thailand stand closer to the U.S. than to Russia, a sign of how much space opens between the two ends of the table. The weakest guarantee among the 20 most generous countries still more than doubles the strongest among the 20 least generous.

Russia trails Iran’s 53 days by 11 but stands one day above the four countries at 41 that fill the final slots of this top 20. Seventeen of the 20 countries, from Andorra through Panama, land between 41 and 44 days. Past the top three, the largest legal minimums cluster within three days of one another. A single day separates Russia from the Maldives, Equatorial Guinea, Georgia, and Panama, and two days separate it from Andorra, Bhutan, and Bahrain. Position in this stretch of the list reveals little about how much more rest one country’s workers can claim over another’s. The divide that matters for a worker in Russia separates the two ends of the table, where differences run to weeks.

Shortfall: this slide runs about 250 words, below the 300-word minimum. The source gives Russia only its 42-day total, with no split between vacation and public holidays and no descriptive detail, and no approved web details cover Russia. Further expansion would require padding or invented context.

Vocabulary audit flag: the roots “paid,” “day,” and “total” recur across paragraphs. They name the article’s core measure, and no precise synonym exists.
