On Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m., a walker found the lifeless body of a woman in Lombardy, Italy, near Trivigno (municipality of Tirano). Any help comes too late for them: the emergency services called in can only the death of the woman confirm, as “Merkur” reports.
Based on the numerous wounds that the woman had, a suspicion soon arose: Was she attacked by animals? The injuries were identified as bite wounds, although a wolf attack was out of the question. But the investigators soon received solid information about the cause of death: the alarm had sounded apparently the owner of the dogswho are presumably responsible for the woman’s death, as the Italian portal “Il Giorno” reports.
Dog came to owner covered in blood
The dog owner became suspicious when one of his five Dogo Argentino dogs came back to him covered in blood. The owner is 46-year-old Luca Ceconi, who moved to Trivigno about three years ago, along with his horses and dogs.
“Il Giorno” was able to find out the identity of the deceased woman. She was Lucia Tognela, a 59-year-old woman from Bianzone, a neighboring municipality to Tirano. According to the reconstruction, the wife and mother of two adult children was alone on a walk.
Authorities confiscate animals
The authorities confiscated Luca Ceconi’s Dogo Argentinos and took them to the mountain community animal shelter of Sondrio. Tognela’s body is expected to be autopsied between Tuesday and Wednesday. It will then become clear whether Ceconi – alone or together with others – will be entered in the register of accused. There is suspicion of negligent killing and failure to supervise the animals.
Explosive: The “Gaucho of Trivigno”, as Ceconi is known locally according to “Il Giorno”, was feared precisely because of his very careless treatment of his dogs. Over the years, this brought him several reports and checks by the local police – triggered by reports from frightened people.
