PARAMARIBO – The government is keeping fuel prices unchanged for the time being and is currently closely monitoring the economic consequences of the war in the Middle East. After consultation with the parties involved, the Ministry of Finance and Planning and Staatsolie previously decided to introduce a price cap.
Due to this measure, the prices for diesel and unleaded remain fixed at SRD 53.27 and SRD 48.32 respectively. The government wants to prevent society from suddenly being confronted with significant price increases. The government reports in a press release.
The introduction of the price ceiling offers the government scope to flexibly adapt its policy to changing international circumstances. Limiting the economic impact of the war on society is central. At the same time, it is ensured that the costs of this measure remain in proportion to the available state revenues.
The authorities continue to closely monitor international developments and continuously evaluate the effects on the national economy. If the situation requires it, policy adjustments will be implemented and communicated in a timely manner, so that society remains well informed and can prepare for possible changes.
