The case of Hamide Magashi | After the murder of the pregnant woman in the yard of the KKUK, the suspended policemen returned to duty

Agron Hasanaj, regional director of the Kosovo Police in Pejë, Ndue Nikolla, major and head of Regional Investigations, Faik Jahmurataj, captain and commander of the Police Station in Pejë, Dervish Haxhijaj, deputy commander of this station, Sami Lekaj, commander of the Police Substation in Vitomirica, as well as Faruk Muçolli, head of Investigations at the Police Station in Pejë, are among the 11 police officials who were suspended from work today on the recommendation of the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo.
According to the IPK, this decision came after they failed to fulfill their obligations as police officers in the case of the late Arlinda Zekaj.
Similar to this case, police officials were suspended for the murder of Hamide Magashi, the 35-year-old woman who was nine months pregnant and killed by her husband in the yard of the KKUK. They even ended up with a criminal complaint.
“The Police Inspectorate of Kosovo confirms to you that it has investigated the criminal case against four police officers of the Police Station in Lipjan, under the suspicion that they have committed the criminal offense of ‘Misuse of official position or authority’, and for this reason they have been recommended suspension with pay. After gathering evidence, the IPK has announced that, in consultation with the Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Pristina, it has filed criminal charges against the three suspects (a sergeant and two investigators of the Police Station in Lipjan) for the criminal offense of ‘Misuse of official position or authority’, while the commander of the Police Station in Lipjan has made a request for the initiation of disciplinary proceedings in the Directorate for Internal Investigations and Background Verification in the Kosovo Police”, it was stated in the PIK communique in 2023.
However, not much time had passed since the paid suspension, the same had returned to work.
“After the completion of the investigative actions, the submission of the criminal report to the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Pristina and the request for a disciplinary investigation in the KP, the IPK has informed the General Director of the KP that the reasons for the suspension of four police officers of the Police Station in Lipjan have ceased”, it was further stated in the response of the IPK.
