A 20-year-old man from Barataria has been remanded after making his first court appearance since being charged with murdering his 46-year-old mother and 17-year-old sister.
Nicholas Ramlal appeared before High Court Master Valene Guerra Abraham yesterday afternoon.
The case was adjourned to February 22, next year.
Ramlal is accused of murdering his mother, Rosanna and his teenage sister, Elena at their Seventh Avenue, Malick, Barataria, home on October 16.
Their bodies were found by fire officers after they extinguished a blaze at the house. Three spent shells were found near their bodies.
Autopsies revealed that both had been shot in the head before being burnt in the fire.
Ramlal was detained by police officers at the scene after claiming that his relatives were killed in a home invasion, from which he managed to escape relatively unscathed.
Ramlal’s father Wesley, who operates Fats Doubles in Port-of-Spain, was on a hunting trip at the time of the incident.
Ramlal was charged by Corporal Timothy of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations after she received advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) this week.
