Officials of the Afghanistan Railway Consortium say that the Herat-Khaf railway has the capacity to transport 1,000 tons of export goods every day and is ready to expand the scope of domestic products to foreign markets by providing the necessary facilities.
Fazal Ahmed Ghazath, head of Roznik railway, says that during the current year, the level of imported goods through Herat-Khaf railway has increased by 100% compared to the same period of last year.
According to him, petroleum materials, construction materials and food materials are among the main imported goods of this route.
The country adds that the increase in the transportation of goods through the Herat-Khaf railway has facilitated the business process and has also provided employment for hundreds of people.
According to him, more than 400 people are currently working in this facility in the loading and unloading of goods.
At the same time, some of the workers say that the creation of job opportunities in the country has prevented them from going to foreign countries to find work and has provided an opportunity for their families to earn income.
On the other hand, the officials of Herat regional administration say that they are trying to facilitate the process of export and import and to increase Afghanistan’s commercial transactions with other countries, by providing necessary facilities to some traders and shipping companies.
The export of cotton from Helmand to Turkey has started through the Herat-Khaf railway, which shows the capacity of the railway to develop Afghanistan’s foreign trade along with the increase in imports.
The development of exports of domestic products and the increase in the use of railways can help the economic growth of the country and the creation of job opportunities.
