Netanyahu, of the traditional right-wing Likud party, is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister. In addition, he has had non-continuous terms since he was first elected in 1996.
Its main rival is Gadi Eisenkota former top military commander and leader of the center-right Yashar (Righteousness) party. Eisenkot routinely accuses Netanyahu of being responsible for the October 7 attack for having ignored alerts from security services and other countries.
Current polls indicate that neither Netanyahu’s bloc nor the one led by Eisenkot are in a position to obtain the 61 seats needed to control the 120-seat parliament. and form a government coalition.
