The National Road Safety Unit (Unasev) published a report referring to the traffic accidents involving personal mobility vehicles (VMP), that is, those that include the electric bicycles, skateboards and skateboards.
The disclosure of this data occurs at the same time as the Municipality of Montevideo (IM) analyzes regulating the circulation of these devicesdespite the fact that there is a 2019 regulation with little oversight.
According to Unasev data, in In 2025 there were 191 cases of VMP users injured in accidents (between mild and severe), while in 2020 had been 26. This implies a growth of 634.6%.

Within the VMP category, the The device that recorded the greatest increase in accidents was skateboardswhich emerged as the category with “greater growth in injured“in the last five yearsin the period 2020-2025.
Among the accidents registered by Unasev, serious injuries “show a growing trend in absolute terms”, since there had been four in 2021 to 26 in 2025. The participation, however, in the total number of injuries remained stable.
Regarding minor injuries, VMP users who fall within this category also “show a growing trend in absolute terms”, going from 25 cases in 2020 to 165 in 2025.
There was a deceased VMP user who was registered in 2020, who was riding a skateboard, Unasev detailed.
