President of the Dominica Cycling Association, Ronald Charles, has congratulated national cyclists Ajani Casimir and Kohath Baron following their participation in the 2026 Caribbean Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic on October 11.
Speaking to Dominica News Online on Monday, Charles praised both athletes for representing Dominica at the regional competition, highlighting Casimir’s eighth-place finish in the under-23 category as a notable achievement.
Casimir completed the gruelling 140-kilometre race in three hours and 24 minutes, finishing eighth among 19 competitors in his division.
Charles commended the young cyclist for his determination and perseverance in completing the demanding event, noting that his performance had made both the association and Dominica proud. The president also acknowledged the contribution of coach Levi in preparing the athletes for the championship.
Meanwhile, Baron competed in the elite category, with both divisions participating in the same 140-kilometre race. According to Charles, Baron made a strong start and performed well during the opening three laps before encountering a setback on the fourth lap. The cyclist reportedly rode into a hole, sustaining a wrist injury that prevented him from maintaining his grip and ultimately forced him to withdraw from the competition.
Despite the disappointment, Charles described the experience as valuable for both riders and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the continued development of Dominican cycling.
The Dominica Cycling Association has also expressed gratitude to the Dominica Olympic Committee for its financial assistance, which helped
cover essential expenses, including accommodation, transportation and equipment for the athletes. Charles thanked the committee’s president, capacity officer and staff for their support, emphasising the importance of such assistance in enabling Dominican cyclists to compete at the regional level.
He reiterated that both athletes had represented their country with pride and that the association would continue working to advance the sport in Dominica.
