Pirineu Viu, the Housing Trade Union Confederation of Catalonia (COSHAC) and the Tenants’ Union have called this Thursday, October 8, at 7 p.m., a rally at Seu d’Urgell to demand measures against the housing crisis in the Pyrenees. The entities point out that the weight of second homes, tourist homes and seasonal rentals reduce the available supply to live there habitually.
The summoners claim one effective regulation of seasonal rentals, more public housing stock and measures to mobilize properties intended for tourist or second residence uses. Pirineu Viu warns that the lack of housing makes it difficult for young people, families and workers to settle in mountain municipalities.
The spokesperson for Pirineu Viu, Arnau Corberó, assures that “there are many houses in the Pyrenees; the problem is that there are fewer and fewer to live in” and defends collective mobilization to guarantee the right to housing in villages and mountain valleys.
