
Havana/The 47th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, scheduled for December 3 to 13, will be focused on “the history, significance and relevance of cinematography” in Brazil, in the midst of the crisis that the Island is going through, marked by prolonged blackouts and a lack of basic services.
As reported this Saturday by state media, within the Industrial Sector, the central topic will be the use of artificial intelligence in cinema, and will feature in debates, classes and conferences.
The report also indicates that as part of the activities, the fourth Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum, “Juan Padrón in memoriam”.
“This Forum will be held in the midst of difficult conditions for Cuba, but we want to continue the successes of this event in the development of animated film specialties and its recognized usefulness in project consulting,” indicated the organizers of the event.
The festival, scheduled for December 3 to 13, will focus on “the history, significance and current events of cinematography” in Brazil.
The 47th edition of the Festival will also look at the work of Cuban filmmaker Julio García Espinosa (1926-2016) in the year of his centenary, who was also director of the Festival of New Latin American Cinema.
García Espinosa, known for transcendental fiction films such as Adventures of Juan Quinquín (1967) or Queen and King (1994), he was founder of the Committee of Filmmakers of Latin America, member of the Spanish Film Academy and director of the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños.
The Havana New Latin American Cinema Festival had its first edition on December 3, 1979, conceived as a continuation of the festivals of Viña del Mar (1967 and 1969), Mérida (1968 and 1977) and Caracas (1974).
In its editions, the contest has brought together prestigious Cuban filmmakers and from other parts of the world regarding Latin American filmography and for years it has been considered one of the benchmarks of the sector in Latin America.
