Belize may be close to settling a sensitive dispute with the United States over the future of the Cuban medical brigade. Foreign Affairs CEO Oscar Arnold says negotiations are nearing a resolution, but he would not disclose the details. He insists, however, that both governments recognize what is at stake: protecting the stability of Belize’s healthcare system. Here is how he explained it.

Oscar Arnold, CEO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
“There continues to be engagement at all levels between our governments. We believe there will be a resolution very soon. I can’t speak to the details yet. But for us, the Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Ministry of Health and Wellness has always maintained that we will, of utmost priority, ensure that we have our medical system in place and that we have enough professionals to serve our population.”
We will continue to follow the ongoing negotiations until there is a resolution.
