DAR ES SALAAM: An Omani government delegation has held talks in Tanzania aimed at identifying new trade and investment opportunities and encouraging partnerships between businesses in the two countries.
The delegation from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion met Tanzanian government bodies, economic institutions, investors and business leaders during the visit.
It was led by Ibtisam bint Ahmed al Farooji, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Investment Promotion.
Al Farooji said the longstanding historical relationship between Oman and Tanzania offered a foundation for broader economic and investment cooperation.
Oman regards Tanzania as an important partner in East Africa because of the country’s economic potential and investment opportunities, she said.
The visit forms part of Oman’s efforts to strengthen its commercial presence in African markets and build long-term partnerships with economies offering growth potential.
Al Farooji presented Oman as a gateway through which investors could reach markets in the Gulf and wider region, supported by its location, transport infrastructure and investment incentives.
She also highlighted Oman’s Golden Residency programme, which grants eligible investors, business owners and skilled professionals and their families long-term residency.
The programme is intended to provide investors with greater stability and strengthen their links to Oman’s economy and business environment.
Al Farooji said direct discussions with Tanzania’s business community would help Oman better understand investor priorities and match them with opportunities in sectors targeted for development.
The two countries are seeking to turn their historical relationship into commercially viable projects capable of creating economic value and supporting trade diversification.
Saud bin Hilal al Shidhani, Oman’s Ambassador to Tanzania, said stronger engagement between government institutions and private companies would help both sides capitalise on their respective resources and investment opportunities.
He said current economic activity reflected a shared intention to develop broader and more sustainable partnerships.
The programme includes bilateral meetings with Tanzanian officials and economic organisations, as well as discussions with investors and company executives.
The meetings will present investment opportunities in Oman and identify sectors that could support joint ventures and future projects between Omani and Tanzanian companies.
