Confused censorship in the public media, burnout at the age of 26, a tough conversation with the family before the elections – strong quotes from the Vera Tóth interview

Vera Tóth, the winner of the first series of Megasztár, came forward with her own political views for the first time before the elections. Now in Telex After, he talked about the background of this, the censorship of public media or the damaging effect of talent scouts on performers. The singer also talked about her relationship with her sister, Gabi Tóth, with whom she shares completely different political views.

He was sought out for a Fidesz event, and he offered himself in vain for the anti-system concert

“For the last week, I was like, now or never. For some reason, I felt that my head was in a vise, and I had to speak out. Because he who is silent is an accomplice among criminals,” he said about his speech before the elections, when he clearly cast his vote for the Tisza Party. According to him, the majority of musicians are sensitive to the general public mood, and according to him, performers have been like nurses on the front lines in recent years.

Vera Tóth added that she never hid if a case was important to her, for example when she protected the rainbow families. He thought about and considered many times whether to speak publicly before the elections, and finally decided to post because he felt that he no longer wanted to live in this depressing, morally corrupting system.

The singer’s sister, Gabi Tóth, is an open supporter of Fidesz and, as it recently turned out, of the faction of the party was an employee of the campaign. Vera Tóth was approached by her sister to perform at DPK events, but she would not have accepted such an appearance for any money. “I stayed away from this directly, I tried to make it clear that I don’t want a joint photo, I don’t want to be identified with politics. I also talked to Máté Kocsis, he was good-natured,” he said on the broadcast. According to Vera Tóth, there is an important difference between her sister and the influencers who receive money for their campaign videos, because according to her, Gabi Tóth is authentic in this role.

He has not spoken to his family since the election. “Now there is such a peppery atmosphere, and I had a tough conversation with my parents on the Sunday before the elections, even though I tried to avoid the topic,” he said, adding that someone in the family has to start this conversation at some point. “The way it works for us is to pretend it didn’t happen, but now we can’t pretend nothing happened,” she said of her family.

“Boundaries must be drawn, trust me, my mother and father, if I stand up for something, I have considered it very carefully.”

He also said that he applied for the event organized by Róberték Puzsér for a disruptive concert as a performer, but was not called back. Maybe I’m not such an underground face, maybe I wouldn’t have fit into this forbidden radio lineup.

Vera Tóth is now being iced, they said in the public media

Vera Tóth previously appeared countless times on public media channels with her concerts, interviews or guest appearances. Many assumed that, like her sister, she also supports Fidesz, this image could have been reinforced by the fact that in 2025 she won the award, which mainly highlights speakers who are friendly to the government Petőfi Music Award.

“I made a concert film where I wanted to show the connection between different age groups through the exhibition of Márton Nemes, with many artists. One of the managers of Petőfi TV wrote to my manager that he liked this film and that it was great that someone wanted to bring such quality into pop culture. I think it might have been partisanship on his part.”

According to Vera Tóth, the censorship of the public media was a big scam. “Barbará Schoblocher was admitted to the Fábry Show, for example, but not to Szerencseszombat,” recalled the singer, then added that she herself might have been in the tolerated category in the public media, a cute little girl who seems neutral. He also said that when the homophobic law was passed, he was also banned because he put a rainbow flag next to a quote. “The MTVA said that we are now freezing Tóth Vera.”

He wouldn’t let anyone in today’s talent show

According to Vera Tóth, the current Megastar is cultural pollution. The singer previously wrote that she could not participate in a production that advertises a talent search, when in fact it is hard trash and heartless exploitation of both the main characters and the contestants. According to the speaker, judging a talent show is a bit of a chore at the moment. According to him, it is possible to burn out as a performer in as little as one year, and this happened to him at the age of 26. The fact that the tabloids constantly wrote about her weight played a role in this, and she also had to deal with the fact that the image of her as a peasant girl was reinforced in the media, which was not helped by the fact that she also had a minority complex.

The singer is on the show because of the Pilvax coffee house and the government’s drug law banned clubs parallel drawn between “Why were the clubs banned? The movements always started from here, the youth discussed their problems in these places,” he said.

“I expect the new administration to let us breathe”

Vera Tóth expressed her hope. In her youth, a few years ago, the singer did not see that they were conscious, but today she bows down to them and wants to learn from them. That’s why you think, for example Zsolt Bayer’s condescending remarks to young people also outrageous. According to him, today’s young people are members of a generation whose parents have processed the transgenerational pressure. “Let’s finally forget that you can’t talk honestly about things. Our Stockholm syndrome must be overcome and we must finally transform into a free-thinking, European, developing beautiful country.”
