SAN MARINO – The San Marino Undistricted Lions Club inaugurated the 2026-2027 Lions year on Friday 25 September. The new president Roberto Tura opened the activities with a meeting dedicated to the history of the saints Marino and Leone and the conservation of ancient manuscripts, hosted at the Grand Hotel San Marino.
The evening, entitled “Between History and Tradition: the Vita Sanctorum Marini et Leonis manuscript and the art of giving life back to ancient texts”, had as its speaker Barbara Bertonidirector of the Rimini publishing house Imago – La Nobiltà del Facsimile.
Through images and historical insights, Bertoni illustrated the content of the manuscript, which tells the story of the two Dalmatian stonecutters Marino and Leone, figures linked to the origins of the Republic of San Marino and the city of San Leo.
The document, jointly nominated by San Marino, Italy and Croatia, was included in UNESCO’s International Memory of the World Register in 2025. During the meeting, the techniques used by the Imago publishing house to reproduce ancient texts in facsimiles were also illustrated, combining craftsmanship and modern technologies.
The deputy mayor of San Leo also participated in the evening Valentina Guerra.
In closing, President Tura announced the next meeting of the Lions Club, scheduled for October 5th and dedicated to the theme “UFOs today: revelations and conclusions”.
