Today, pharmacists across Belize are being recognized for a role that goes far beyond simply filling prescriptions. On World Pharmacists Day, the Belize Pharmacy Association is celebrating that contribution in a special way, welcoming Belize’s newest arrival with a hamper for the first baby born today. It is a small gesture recognizing the big role pharmacists play in keeping Belizeans healthy, from medicine safety and patient care to supporting doctors and nurses on the frontline. Here is President of Pharmacy Association of Belize Jada Parchue on today’s gesture and other activities planned for Pharmacists Day in Belize.

“I think it is important for us to recognize the role that pharmacy plays in healthcare because our role goes beyond just sitting behind a counter and dispensing. We also help patients understand their medication, identify problems during treatment and also promote the safe use and appropriate use of medication and work alongside nurses and doctors to ensure optimal healthcare. We have a series of events planned. We had our Glow Walk yesterday that was led by Marisol G Melotto Pharmacy, KHMH and we also had a blood drive that was led by Medicare Plus. And even the students got involved. They had a little recognition ceremony this week in Belmopan as well. And to end off our week with a bang, we wanted to give a hamper to the first born baby that would be born on this day, September 25, just to, you know, give back to the community on this day.”
This year’s theme is Empowering Pharmacists for Future Healthcare.
