Several companies with Greenlandic activities are experiencing strong price increases on the American stock exchanges.
The share price of several companies in Greenland rose on Monday after the announcement of a negotiated agreement between the US, Denmark and Greenland.
In connection with the American stock market opening, Greenland Energy’s US-listed share soared by 127 percent, while the Greenland Mines share jumped by 136 percent.
The share of Critical Metals Corp, which extracts rare earth species in Greenland, is also lifted by 33 percent.
– Interest in Greenland’s raw materials is increasing. The critical raw materials are crucial for Europe’s security of supply and green transition, assesses Peter Thagesen, geopolitical head of Danish Industry, in a comment.
He emphasizes that it will be positive for the companies if the agreement between Denmark, Greenland and the USA can contribute to greater clarity and stability about the future development in Greenland.
– This is an important prerequisite for long-term investments, he writes.
It is still unclear to the public what the trilateral agreement actually entails.
The three governments are expected to sign the agreement during the beginning of the week in connection with the UN General Assembly.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen, chairman of Naalakkersuisut, has said in a public statement that “the agreement recognizes Greenland’s interests and our place in international cooperation”.
Earlier this summer, the Greenlandic government rejected several drilling activities from foreign players, including American Greenland Energy, as “the necessary regulatory process” could not be completed before drilling began.
Greenland Energy, which has employed several people with connections to the US president, has previously stated that the company expected to be able to start drilling in October.
