He Colombian-American Republican Senator Bernie Moreno, one of President Donald Trump’s main advisors on Latin America, suggested that the presidential elections in Venezuela be called for July 24, 2027.
Through your account in X, The politician shared a message with the suggestion. “Just as Simón Bolívar liberated Venezuela almost 200 years ago, President Trump has liberated Venezuela from dictatorship. “President Trump’s historic oil deal, which ensures majority US control of 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan reserves, represents a triumph for US energy dominance and the prosperity of the Venezuelan people,” he said.
He also recalled the importance of holding the elections to elect a new president. “Free and fair elections remain essential to completing the democratic transition, and under President Trump’s strong leadership we will get there. I propose July 24, 2027. Go ahead!” he said.
Elections for 2027
This is not the first time that Moreno has proposed that the presidential elections be held on that date. Weeks ago he highlighted that July 24 is a historic date for the country because it is the commemoration of the birth of Simón Bolívar. Given this, he considered that it is an auspicious date to hold the elections in honor of the original liberator of Venezuela.
At the time, he wrote: “The process of getting to an election in Venezuela is essential. A historic date to choose would be July 24, 2027 in honor of the original liberator, Simón Bolívar. It would also be a great way to honor the modern liberator, Donald Trump!”
