WANICA — Some apartments in an apartment complex on Mr. Rashied Pierkhanweg burned down on Sunday afternoon. The Suriname Police Corps wrote on its website the same evening that further expansion of the fire could be prevented through decisive action by the fire brigade.
The report was received by the Santodorp police at two to five on Sunday afternoon. It was indicated that a low-rise stone house at the apartment complex was on fire. However, when the police and fire brigade arrived, a row of apartments was on fire.
The fire caused significant damage to several residential units and parts of the roof structure. The KPS indicates that one of the most affected apartments was occupied by a police officer. “This apartment has suffered very serious damage, with the loss of a large part of its contents.” The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
