Guyana Amazon Warriors produced a stunning lower-order fightback to defeat Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by two wickets with three balls remaining and capture the Women’s Caribbean Premier League title at Kensington Oval on Thursday.
Chasing 146 for victory, the Amazon Warriors made a strong start, reaching 43 for one at the end of the powerplay after opener Eboni Brathwaite was dismissed for five off the final ball of the opening over.
But their chase unravelled as they slumped to 71 for six midway through the 13th over, when Shemaine Campbelle was dismissed for nine.
Earlier opener Tazmin Brits added 22, Erin Burns 12 and Realeanna Grimmond two, while Nadine de Klerk failed to score.
The Amazon Warriors were not to be denied, however, as Player-of-the-Match Chedean Nation smashed 39 not out from 21 balls including four sixes, while captain Chloe Tryon stroked 32 from 18 deliveries, with four fours and one six.
Needing nine runs off the final over to secure the win, Nation hammered her West Indies teammate Karishma Ramharack for six off the first ball. Unable to score from the second delivery, she then stroked the third ball of the over, over the boundary rope to set off massive celebrations among her teammates and supporters.
TKR captain Deandra Dottin, Shikha Pandey and Karishma Ramharack all took two wickets apiece.
When play began TKR posted a challenging 145 for six, after winning the toss and electing to bat. Opener Sushma Verma top scored with 39 off 34 deliveries, during an innings that featured two fours and two sixes.
They had made a cautious start, reaching 27 for two at the end of the powerplay, with their 50 coming up in the tenth over off 57 balls.
Marizanne Kapp added 25 from just 10 balls and Shikha Pandey 27.
For the Amazon Warriors, Shabnim Ismail took two for 18 and Shamilia Connell one for 18.
